ここで使われているwaivedはスポーツ用語として特別な意味を持っている。

"A waiver is a temporary status for players who are released by their team. A player released between August 15th and the end of the regular season stays on waivers for 48 hours. A player released at any other time stays on waivers for 10 days. During the waiver period other teams may claim a waived player. If more than one team tries to claim the player, the team with the worst record gets him. If a player on waivers is claimed, the new team acquires his existing contract and pays the remainder of his salary. There is also a fee of $1,000, payable to the league office, for claiming a waived player. A team can claim a waived player only if one of the following is true: The team is far enough under the salary cap to fit the player's entire salary.The team has a disabled player exception for at least the player's salary.The team has a trade exception for at least the player's salary. The player's contract is for one or two seasons and he is paid the minimum salary. If no team claims a waived player, he is said to have "cleared waivers." The player may sign with the team of his choice at that point. The player's new team only pays the pro-rated minimum salary to the player. ウィンクルボス兄弟、映画でもそっくりですよね。 でも二人を演じた役者さん達は全然違う顔なのです。
   

演じる時は二人で演じて、編集時に、片方の頭をちょんぎって、もう一つの頭とすりかえたそうな。 すごい技術ですね。全く気づきませんでした。 私はまたすごいそっくりな双子をみつけてきたものだと思っていました。

Okay, let’s look at a sample problem. Suppose we’re given a computer with a 16-bit virtual address and a page size of 256 bytes.

アメリカに移住して最初の年。私はレストランでバイトしていました。
飲み物の注文をとっているとき、とても恥ずかしいことを言ってしまったのです。

私 : Would you like anything to drink?
お飲物は何にされますか？

客1: I'll have a coke.
コーク（コーラ）にします。
客2: Me too.
僕も。

私: Okay. 2 coke .
オッケー。コークがお二つですね（といったつもり）。

するとお客さんがくすくす笑い始めたのです。
私は何がおかしいのかよくわからなかったので、店長のところへ言って説明しました。
そしたら、店長が、「君の発音だとコークではなくコックに聞こえるんだよ。コックの意味知ってる？」と言いました。私は「？？？」。店長「ペニスだよ」

つまりお客さんはコーラを二つ頼んでいるのに、私は「了解、ペニス２本ね」と言っちゃったのです。

思い出すと結構笑えます。

６ヶ月間のアカデミックプロベーションだってさ。
*"Academic probation" is the most common term colleges and universities use to indicate that a student is not proceeding academically as required by the institution.　
簡単に言うと、アカデミックプロベーションというのは大学側からもらう警告／処罰のようなもので、〜をしないと次の学期にすすめないとかという条件が課される。

あいつら速すぎるぜ。

CAMERON:Is there anyway to make this a fair fight?

公平なレースにする方法ってあるかな？

他の人たちに比べてあまりにも自分たちが速いので、レースが不公平なのではないかということを前提にして、公平なレースにする方法ってあるかなあと冗談交じりに話している。

TYLER:We could jump out and swim.

飛び降りて泳ぐ。

CAMERON:I think we’d have to jump out and drown.

飛び降りて溺れるってのはどう。

TYLER:Or you could row forward and I could row backward.

そうか、俺が前向きに漕いで、お前が後ろ向きに漕ぐとか。

CAMERON:We’re genetically identical, science says we’d stay in one place.

俺たちは遺伝学的に同じだから、科学上一つの場所にとどまるだろうね。

同時にブログに書き込みしてたんだ。いい考えがある。

「いい考え」というのはお見通しということ。

今日の会話にも出てきていますが、2200をtwenty two  hundredと言う言い方、日本の中学や高校ではあまり教えないのではないかと思います。私が知っていたのはtwo thousand two hundredでした。アメリカに留学しに来て、すぐにこの表現に出くわし、なーるほどと思ったものです。では2000ではどうなるか？twenty hundredとなるの？とアメリカ人の友人に聞いたのを覚えています。4ケタの数字で下3桁がゼロとなるときはhundredは使わずtwo thousandという形のみになります。（two grandと言うこともできますが、これはもう少しくだけた感じになります。）

22000です。
上で少し説明しましたが、twenty-two hundred（２２００）と聞かれたので、いやhundredではなくthousand (22000)だと答えたのです。

MARYLN: What?
なんて？

MARK:Twenty-two thousand.
22000件です。

MARYLIN:Wow.
ワオ。
